Challenger's Focus
Challenger motivates their students to have P.R.I.D.E, prepared, respectful, integrity, dependable, and everyone is safe. The school implements the concepts of teamwork and living a healthy lifestyle. Monday through Thursday students participate in 20-30 minutes of P.E. each day. The school’s goal is to provide a daily routine of being as active as possible. They do this by providing curriculum to be active and even taking “brain breaks” where the students will stop and do calisthenic exercises.
Challenger not only provides the opportunity to be active throughout each school day, but offers students after school activities as well. The activities are sports related or there are also different clubs such as drawing, cartoons, camping, or have even had sewing in the past. These extra activities also allow the teachers to express their own interests in sports or clubs by teaching the different programs after school.
Mr. Alsbury says they want to create a positive environment for everyone. By making sports a core element in the school, in addition to the daily core curriculum they hope to teach the love of the game and for students to develop skills to pursue sports after Challenger. It helps make the students prepared for college and motivates them due to the connection with P.E. as much as possible with the other learning. They hold students accountable where students sign a contract in order to encourage best behavior for all of the students at Challenger.
